Teleporting between network servers
How to send a player from one server to another with a command or item: plugins, proxy API, and preserving context.
Updated August 13, 2026
A player should get from survival into minigames with one button, not with the /server command.
Methods
| Method | How it works |
|---|---|
/server name | The proxy's basic command — Velocity |
| Compass menu | Menus and interfaces with a transfer command |
| Portal | A proxy portal plugin or a region with a command |
| NPC | Citizens with a command |
| Automatically on an event | A minigame queue plugin |
Important detail
The /server command runs on the proxy. A plugin on the backend must send it through the plugin channel (the BungeeCord channel) instead of trying to run it locally. Menu plugins can usually do this with the [server] flag instead of [player].
Preserving context
When switching, the player loses: effects, flight, open interfaces. The inventory is preserved if synchronization is set up — Inventory synchronization.
Delay
A transfer takes a second or two: the server has to load the player's data. On a weak backend, this is noticeable. A limbo or a loading screen makes the transition less jarring — Limbo.
Errors
The “server unavailable” message — Unable to connect you to backend.
