Hosting a world from your own PC means port forwarding, a public IP and a computer that must stay on. A hosted server skips all of it. You create the server in the panel, copy the address, and your friends add it under multiplayer. Nobody installs a VPN.
The free plan needs no card: 2 GB of memory and up to 10 players at once, which covers an evening with friends. It sleeps five minutes after the last player leaves and wakes up from the owner button. Files are kept for 7 days from the last launch.
Friends do not need your launcher, only the same game version. Java and Bedrock players can share one world through Geyser and Floodgate. If you later want the server running around the clock, you can move to a paid plan and keep the world and the address.
