Ice Boat Nerf
Makes it so boats don't go extra fast on ice.
Must be installed on both client and server.
There are also two(!) Forge ports:
- Boat Behavior Tweaks by chibl, for 1.16 versions
- Ice Boat Nerf - Reforged by kawaiicakes, for newer versions
This mod makes it so boats don't go any faster on ice blocks than they do on dirt.
Why?
Well it doesn't make a lot of sense that in vanilla boats move faster on ice than on water.
Also, there are loads of more interesting ways of traveling quickly in minecraft that are largely made obsolete by the existence of ice boats, like:
- piston bolts
- dolphin highways
- simple railways
- piston worms
So if you want to make use of all these other interesting mechanics but don't want to feel like your effort is wasted on these complex but second-rate forms of transport, install this mod!
Enjoy the realism of chickens casually walking past your boat as you try in vain to propel it forward by scraping the paddles across the surface of the ice!

This mod is only for Fabric (works on Quilt, too!) and I won't be porting it to Forge. The license is MIT, however, so anyone else is free to port it.

Click “Install” on this page
The launcher opens and installs the mod for Minecraft 26.1–26.3 on Fabric or Quilt automatically.
Launch the game
A profile with it appears in the launcher: click “Play”.
Manually
Install Fabric or Quilt
The loader must match the game version of the mod file, for example Minecraft 26.3. After installing it, a separate profile appears in your launcher.
Download the file for your version
In the version list above, pick the file ice_boat_nerf-1.3.2+MC26.1-26.3.x.jar (115 KB) for your game version and loader.
Put it in the mods folder
The folder is inside .minecraft (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If it does not exist, create it.
Launch the loader profile
Open “Mods” in the main menu: Ice Boat Nerf should be in the list.

Is Ice Boat Nerf for Forge or Fabric?
There are files for Fabric: 26.1–26.3 and for Quilt: 26.1–26.3. There are no files for Forge or NeoForge: a mod for another loader will not start.
