Lore of the Cascade project: Two hundred years ago, the ancient race of Builders tried to draw energy from the Null Layer, triggering a chain reaction called "Cascade." Instead of immortality, they got the unraveling of reality. The only one who could slow the collapse was the Ender Dragon, transformed into a living resonator. Its agony holds back the Rift, but every new portal, every ender pearl brings the catastrophe closer. You are the Echoes, reincarnated souls of those very Builders, who must now either save the world or hasten its fall.
