📋 Overview
Chat Tools is a highly customizable Minecraft client mod that supports various features, allowing them to interoperate through commands and more.
📖 Glossary and Technical Details
- Session Identifier (Chat Tools-specific term) is a string that, in single-player mode, corresponds to the current save name, and in multiplayer mode, corresponds to the server address. Related Regular Expressions use the matches() method for matching.
- Pattern (General term) refers to the Regular Expression pattern. Chat Tools uses the MULTILINE mode for Regular Expressions and matches them using the find() method.
- Chat Tools maintains multi versions by using macro replacement. The same version of Chat Tools may exhibit slight differences between Minecraft versions.
- When processing player messages, Chat Tools removes color codes (§.).
- By enabling Advanced Tooltips (F3+H), you can hover over configuration items on the configuration page to view their keys, default values, and other details.

- /chattools off - Disable the mod.
- /chattools opengui - Open the configuration page.
- /chattools download - Download addons.
- /chattools regex_checker [] - Without test content: check if the pattern is a valid regex. With test content: validate the pattern and test if it matches the content.
- /chattools send_to_client text - Send specific text to the client chat bar.
- /chattools send_to_client actionbar - Display specific text on the client actionbar.
- /chattools config openfile - Open the configuration file (editing requires a game restart to apply changes).
- /chattools config get - Retrieve the value of a specific configuration key for the current session.
- /chattools config set [] - Set the value of a specific configuration key. If save is set to true, the changes will also be saved to the file.
- /chattools config toggle [] - Toggle the state of a boolean-type configuration key. If save is set to true, the changes will also be saved to the file.

The launcher opens and installs the mod for Minecraft 1.16–1.20.6 on Fabric or NeoForge automatically, together with its dependencies: Cloth Config API.
Launch the game
A profile with it appears in the launcher: click “Play”.

Install Fabric or NeoForge
The loader must match the game version of the mod file, for example Minecraft 1.20.6. After installing it, a separate profile appears in your launcher.

Put it in the mods folder
The folder is inside .minecraft (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If it does not exist, create it. Required dependencies go there too: Cloth Config API.
Launch the loader profile
Open “Mods” in the main menu: Chat Tools should be in the list.
Chat Tools works on the player’s side only: there is no need to install it on a server.
Minecraft 1.20.6 runs on Java 21: with a different Java version the game may close right after launch.

There are files for 1.16–1.20.6, 23 versions in total. The newest is 1.20.6.
Is Chat Tools for Forge or Fabric?
There are files for Fabric: 1.16–1.20.6 and for NeoForge: 1.20.5–1.20.6. There are no files for Forge: a mod for another loader will not start.
What does Chat Tools need to work?
Required: Cloth Config API. Without it the mod will not start: dependencies go into the same mods folder.
Do I need to install Chat Tools on a server?
