Multi-accounts and alts
How to deal with alts: IP limits, account linking, rewards, and why a complete ban hurts.
Updated August 13, 2026
An alt is a second account belonging to the same person. It's used to evade bans, farm rewards, and spy in factions.
Where it causes harm
| Scenario | Damage |
|---|---|
| Ban evasion | Punishment becomes meaningless |
| Voting and online-time rewards | The economy prints money |
| Referral bonuses | Outright theft |
| Spying in PvP modes | Breaks the genre |
| Territory capture | One player takes over the map |
Tools
- Account limit per IP — an auth plugin or a standalone one — AuthMe.
- IP linking in a ban plugin: the moderator sees linked accounts — IP bans.
- Check when granting rewards: a vote reward goes to the IP, not just the nickname.
- Require Discord linking to access rewards — DiscordSRV.
Why not ban it entirely
Siblings, roommates, internet cafés, and mobile carriers give one IP to several people. A strict ban cuts off honest players.
A sensible scheme: 2–3 accounts per IP are allowed, rewards are counted per IP, and ban evasion is punished.
Case analysis
Before banning someone “for an alt”, check the login history: the same IP with different play times usually means different people. The same IP, the same times, and the same actions mean one person.
