Resource packs for Bedrock
How a Bedrock pack differs from Java, how to distribute it to players, conversion, and limitations of custom models.
Updated August 13, 2026
Java and Bedrock resource pack formats are incompatible: they use different file structures and different models.
How to distribute
Geyser can serve Bedrock packs: put a .mcpack in the packs folder next to the Geyser config. Bedrock players will receive it when they join.
Java players get their own pack through the server itself — Forced resource pack.
So on a mixed server you maintain two packs.
Conversion
Java → Bedrock conversion tools exist, but they don't transfer everything: custom item models, animations and some sounds need manual work.
In practice: convert textures and sounds, and either build complex models separately for Bedrock or drop them on this platform.
Custom items
Plugins like ItemsAdder have separate Bedrock model support, but it is limited and requires configuration — Custom items, ItemsAdder.
Size
Bedrock players are often on mobile internet: keep the pack compact. A 100 MB pack means half your mobile audience drops out at login.
