Mount and Blade style controls for horses. Forward to accelerate, Backward to decelerate, Left to steer left, Right to steer right, Y to change from vanilla controls to combat controls.
Options for server admins or modpack creators
The mod allows you to lock the player into using the combat mode via a server config (.minecraft > saves > [world] > serverconfig > horsecombatcontrols-server.toml)
You can also apply these configs to every new world by copying the config file and pasting it as a default config (.minecraft > defaultconfigs)
Third Person
This mod has no compatibility with Better Third Person because it is closed source. I recommend using my mod, Open Third Person

Launch the game
A profile with it appears in the launcher: click “Play”.

Install Fabric, Forge or NeoForge
The loader must match the game version of the mod file, for example Minecraft 1.21.4. After installing it, a separate profile appears in your launcher.
Download the file for your version
In the version list above, pick the file HorseCombatControls-f1.21.0-1.0.5.jar (19 KB) for your game version and loader.
Put it in the mods folder
The folder is inside .minecraft (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If it does not exist, create it.
Launch the loader profile
Open “Mods” in the main menu: Horse Combat Controls should be in the list.
Minecraft 1.21.4 runs on Java 21: with a different Java version the game may close right after launch.
