Minecraft 1.9 servers run the Combat Update, which reworked fighting: shields, the off‑hand, attack cooldown, a refreshed End and elytra. Because the combat feel changed, part of the PvP community stayed on pre-1.9 while others moved to 1.9 for good. The list covers 1.9 servers for Java.
