How the biomes spawn
In Cave Biomes, the overworld is split into 2 layers, with layer 1 being from any cave above or at y29, and layer 2 being caves from y28 to y0. Cave biomes in layer 1 mimic the overworld biome above them. For example, caves in jungles are filled with vines, and caves in deserts have patches of sand. Layer 2 cave biomes on the other hand, do not follow existing overworld biomes and instead are their own, unique biomes.

- Icy cave (Snowy taiga, Snowy Tundra, Snowy Beach)
- Fern cave (Taiga, Mega taiga & variants)
- Sand cave (Desert, Beach)
- Red sand cave (Mesa biome & variants)

- Jungle cave (Jungle & variants)
- Grassy cave (All other biomes)

Mod compatibility
This mod is compatible with Yung's better caves! You'll need to set the "generateLocalWaterLevels" in cave biomes' config to false to prevent weird water generation, however.

Install Millida Launcher
The launcher is free: download it at millida.net/launcher and sign in with any nickname.
Click “Install” on this page
The launcher opens and installs the mod for Minecraft 1.15.2–1.17.1 on Fabric automatically.
Launch the game
A profile with it appears in the launcher: click “Play”.
Manually
Install Fabric
The loader must match the game version of the mod file, for example Minecraft 1.17.1. After installing it, a separate profile appears in your launcher.
Download the file for your version
In the version list above, pick the file cavebiomes-0.6.3.jar (178 KB) for your game version.
Put it in the mods folder
The folder is inside .minecraft (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If it does not exist, create it.
Launch the loader profile
Open “Mods” in the main menu: Cave Biomes should be in the list.
Minecraft 1.17.1 runs on Java 16: with a different Java version the game may close right after launch.
