A seed is a world code: a number or word the game uses to generate the same map for everyone who enters it. With a good seed you get a village, stronghold, temple or rare biome right near spawn, without spending hours searching for them yourself. It's not a file or a mod — just a string you enter in the “Seed for the World Generator” field when creating a new world.

DetailsCollapse

Every seed in the catalog lists its game version and what exactly is near spawn: generation depends on the version, so a 1.20 seed will give you a different world on 1.21. The edition is noted too — Java and Bedrock generate different maps from the same seed. Coordinates of points of interest are included in the description so you can head straight there. Seeds don't need mods: it's pure vanilla generation, the same for everyone on the same version.

FAQ

Where do I enter a seed?

When creating a new world, open “More” and paste the code into the “Seed for the World Generator” field. The world will generate exactly as it did for the seed's author.

Why did the seed give me a different world?

Generation depends on the game version and edition. A seed used on a different version, or on Java versus Bedrock, produces different maps. Use the seed on the version listed on the card.

Do seeds need mods?

No. A seed is vanilla world generation. Neither you nor the server needs mods — it works on the plain game.
