About the Pettable mod

A mod that fixes Minecraft's huge issue of not being able to pet animals. It allows you to pet most passive mobs, as well as some others.

How to pet: Press Y (or your preferred petting button) to pet. Petting your own tamed mob, such as a wolf, cat, or parrot, heals both you and the mob.

All vanilla pettable mobs (a little outdated):

Configuration:

"Heal when petting a tamed mob" (defaults to true) - Set whether to heal you and your pet when petting it.

"Allow petting players" (defaults to true) - Set whether you can pet other players

"Petting cooldown (ticks)" (defaults to 30) - Set the cooldown in ticks for petting something. The default cooldown of 30 ticks corresponds to 1.5 seconds.

Entity tags:

There are three tags that you can use to change the mobs that are available to pet:

not_pettable (default is empty) - Entities that can never be pet

not_pettable_adult (default contains polar bears and hoglins) - Entities that can only be pet as babies

pettable_anyway (default is empty) - Entities that can be pet even though they normally are not pettable. Overwritten by not_pettable.

Modpack usage: Feel free, no need to ask.

How to install Pettable

With Millida Launcher

  1. Install Millida Launcher

The launcher is free: download it at millida.net/launcher and sign in with any nickname.

  2. Click “Install” on this page

The launcher opens and installs the mod for Minecraft 1.20.4 on Fabric or Quilt automatically.

  3. Launch the game

A profile with it appears in the launcher: click “Play”.

Manually

  1. Install Fabric or Quilt

The loader must match the game version of the mod file, for example Minecraft 1.20.4. After installing it, a separate profile appears in your launcher.

  2. Download the file for your version

In the version list above, pick the file pettable-1.4.1.jar (48 KB) for your game version and loader.

  3. Put it in the mods folder

The folder is inside .minecraft (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If it does not exist, create it.

  4. Launch the loader profile

Open “Mods” in the main menu: Pettable should be in the list.

Minecraft 1.20.4 runs on Java 17: with a different Java version the game may close right after launch.

FAQ

Which Minecraft versions does Pettable work on?

Only Minecraft 1.20.4: there are no files for other versions.

Is Pettable for Forge or Fabric?

There are files for Fabric: 1.20.4 and for Quilt: 1.20.4. There are no files for Forge or NeoForge: a mod for another loader will not start.

Does Pettable need other mods?

The author lists no required dependencies: the Fabric or Quilt loader is enough.

Which Java does Pettable need?

Minecraft 1.20.4 runs on Java 17. If the game closes right after launch, the usual cause is the wrong Java version in the profile settings.

Where can I download Pettable safely?

On this page: the file pettable-1.4.1.jar (48 KB) is stored on Millida’s server, with no link shorteners. SHA-1 checksum: 7bfa77024eae5070ea145186933c0f26a60c1f28.
