A client-side dynamic lighting API mod.
💡 What is Lucent?
Lucent is a dynamic lighting mod and API designed with configurability in mind. This mod will impact your FPS, but many steps have been taken to reduce the performance cost without overhauling Minecraft's rendering engine.
If the mod reduces your FPS too heavily, check the config file for its many settings. The most impactful options are to reduce the lightRefreshRate and to disable smoothBlending.

Mod Conflicts
- Optifine: It will work, although some dynamic lighting will behave strangely if Optifine's dynamic lighting is enabled.
- Sodium: Many parts of Lucent will break with Sodium installed, and it is not recommended.

Doesn’t Optifine do this already?
There is dynamic lighting in Optifine, however it is NOT open-source. Lucent’s dynamic lighting has been completely written from scratch and is open-source, aimed for modpacks and developers that want to work with Lucent’s API for smooth dynamic lighting. Optifine CANNOT be distributed on CurseForge, so for those creating modpacks, who want dynamic lighting right out of the box, Lucent is great for modpack creators.

How to install Lucent
With Millida Launcher
Install Millida Launcher
The launcher is free: download it at millida.net/launcher and sign in with any nickname.
Click “Install” on this page
The launcher opens and installs the mod for Minecraft 1.20.1–1.20.4 on Forge or NeoForge automatically.
Launch the game
A profile with it appears in the launcher: click “Play”.
Manually
Install Forge or NeoForge
The loader must match the game version of the mod file, for example Minecraft 1.20.4. After installing it, a separate profile appears in your launcher.
Download the file for your version
In the version list above, pick the file lucent-1.20.4-1.7.0.jar (211 KB) for your game version and loader.
Put it in the mods folder
The folder is inside .minecraft (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If it does not exist, create it.
Launch the loader profile
Open “Mods” in the main menu: Lucent should be in the list.
Minecraft 1.20.4 runs on Java 17: with a different Java version the game may close right after launch.

Which Minecraft versions does Lucent work on?
There are files for 1.20.4, 1.20.1. The newest is 1.20.4.
Is Lucent for Forge or Fabric?
There are files for Forge: 1.20.1 and for NeoForge: 1.20.1–1.20.4. There are no files for Fabric: a mod for another loader will not start.
Which Java does Lucent need?
Minecraft 1.20.4 runs on Java 17. If the game closes right after launch, the usual cause is the wrong Java version in the profile settings.
