About the Linear Levels mod

This Mod been folded into the Train's Tweaks mod under the Experience feature for 1.21+.

LinearLevels adds three five configuration options for how you want the experience "curve" to work in your game. These configuration options can be found in ModMenu or similar mods. Requires Cloth Config API.

By default, every level will take 10 experience points (compared to vanilla this feels quite low so I recommend configuring it to your liking).

Alternatively, you can enable Curve Mode, which uses the formula (XPToNextLevel = (baseXPForOneLevel + (experienceLevel * curveModeMultiplier)). I find Curve Mode's defaults to be my preference, as the curve doesn't get ridiculous after level 30 like in vanilla.

(yes, the name Linear Levels isn't accurate in this case, I know)

For the exact numbers of both modes and their comparisons to vanilla on a graph, see this Google Sheet.

1.1.0 adds an additional config option: Level Cap. It's disabled by default, but by setting a value, the experience required for the next level will stop increasing at the specified level.

FAQ:

How will this work with XP storage mods?

It depends on how those mods work. In other words, I don't know. The only thing this mod does is mixin to one method in the player entity.

How to install Linear Levels

With Millida Launcher

  1. Install Millida Launcher

The launcher is free: download it at millida.net/launcher and sign in with any nickname.

  2. Click “Install” on this page

The launcher opens and installs the mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Fabric or Quilt automatically.

  3. Launch the game

A profile with it appears in the launcher: click “Play”.

Manually

  1. Install Fabric or Quilt

The loader must match the game version of the mod file, for example Minecraft 1.20.1. After installing it, a separate profile appears in your launcher.

  2. Download the file for your version

In the version list above, pick the file linearlevels-1.1.2.jar (41 KB) for your game version and loader.

  3. Put it in the mods folder

The folder is inside .minecraft (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If it does not exist, create it.

  4. Launch the loader profile

Open “Mods” in the main menu: Linear Levels should be in the list.

Minecraft 1.20.1 runs on Java 17: with a different Java version the game may close right after launch.

There are files for Fabric: 1.20.1 and for Quilt: 1.20.1. There are no files for Forge or NeoForge: a mod for another loader will not start.

Does Linear Levels need other mods?

The author lists no required dependencies: the Fabric or Quilt loader is enough.

Which Java does Linear Levels need?

Minecraft 1.20.1 runs on Java 17. If the game closes right after launch, the usual cause is the wrong Java version in the profile settings.
