Configuration

Run the game once to create the configuration file. By default, the window title will be set to Minecraft __. Unlike in vanilla 1.15.2 onwards, the title will not change when you enter a world/server.

To change the title or icon, navigate to the .minecraft/config folder, and open customwindowtitle-client.toml in a text editor. You will see the following entries:

title = 'Minecraft {mcversion}' icon16 = '' icon32 = ''

Only edit text inside quotes or apostrophes.

Changing the Title

You can use the following special tokens in the title configuration entry:

  • {mcversion} - current Minecraft version
  • {modversion:} - version of installed mod with the identifier
  • {username} - current username

If any of the tokens aren't working, search the game log for CustomWindowTitle and you should see the reason, otherwise please file an issue on the issue tracker with as many details as possible.

Changing the Icon

Minecraft 1.21+

This feature is only available in Custom Window Title 1.4.0 and newer.

Create a square PNG image whose dimensions are a power of two, such as 32x32 or 48x48. Put the PNG file into the .minecraft/config folder, either directly or into a subfolder.

The icon must be saved with transparency even if it doesn't use it, otherwise the icon may be corrupted or not appear at all. In Krita, for example, you must check Store alpha channel (transparency) when saving.

The icon configuration entry points to the PNG file relative to .minecraft/config.

For example, if you placed the icon into .minecraft/config/customwindowtitle/icon.png, then the configuration entry should look like this:

icon = 'customwindowtitle/icon.png'

Minecraft 1.20

This feature is not available in Minecraft 1.20.

Minecraft 1.19 and older

Instead of one icon configuration entry, there are two configuration entries icon16 and icon32 for icons with dimensions 16x16 and 32x32.

Installation von Custom Window Title

With Millida Launcher

  1. Install Millida Launcher

The launcher is free: download it at millida.net/launcher and sign in with any nickname.

  2. Click “Install” on this page

The launcher opens and installs the mod for Minecraft 1.8.9–1.12.2 on Forge automatically.

  3. Launch the game

A profile with it appears in the launcher: click “Play”.

Manually

  1. Install Forge

The loader must match the game version of the mod file, for example Minecraft 1.12.2. After installing it, a separate profile appears in your launcher.

  2. Download the file for your version

In the version list above, pick the file CustomWindowTitle-Legacy-v1.0.0.jar (10 KB) for your game version.

  3. Put it in the mods folder

The folder is inside .minecraft (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If it does not exist, create it.

  4. Launch the loader profile

Open “Mods” in the main menu: Custom Window Title should be in the list.

Custom Window Title works on the player’s side only: there is no need to install it on a server.

Minecraft 1.12.2 runs on Java 8: with a different Java version the game may close right after launch.

FAQ

Is Custom Window Title for Forge or Fabric?

Only for Forge: 1.8.9–1.12.2. There are no files for Fabric or NeoForge: a mod for another loader will not start.

Does Custom Window Title need other mods?

The author lists no required dependencies: the Forge loader is enough.

Which Java does Custom Window Title need?

Minecraft 1.12.2 runs on Java 8. If the game closes right after launch, the usual cause is the wrong Java version in the profile settings.

Where can I download Custom Window Title safely?

On this page: the file CustomWindowTitle-Legacy-v1.0.0.jar (10 KB) is stored on Millida’s server, with no link shorteners. SHA-1 checksum: bef16b123f950c07d8a12f284f8bee35fe08327a.
