Wither Ascension

This datapack turns the Wither into a boss fight. It has scripted attacks, three health phases, and a sword you have to craft to beat it.

The fight is hard. Bring potions, good gear, and a friend if you can.

What it does

• The Wither has three phases based on its health, plus an opening and a last stand.
• It has 17 attacks. Each one shows its name and what to do before it lands.
• The ground changes during the fight, turning into soul sand and blackstone.
• You can craft the Wither-Bane Blade, which stuns it so you can deal damage.

The Wither-Bane Blade

Kill Wither Skeletons until one drops a Withered Core (5% chance, Looting helps). Drop the core next to a Netherite Sword on the ground. The sword keeps its enchantments.

• Hitting the Wither with the blade stuns it for 8 seconds.
• If you hit it while it is charging an attack, you cancel that attack.
• Three of those hits in a row (on Normal) removes 18 HP and stuns it again.
• Right-click throws the blade. It stuns on impact and comes back to you.

The fight

• Awakening — 5 seconds where the Wither cannot move.
• Phase 1 — 100% to 67% health.
• Phase 2 — 66% to 33% health. Minions appear and it casts faster.
• Phase 3 — 33% to 0% health.
• After 3 minutes it takes less damage. After 4:30 it gets stronger again.
• Below 30 HP it moves faster and regenerates health.

Difficulty

/trigger difficulty set 1 casual /trigger difficulty set 2 normal (default) /trigger difficulty set 3 hard /trigger difficulty set 4 nightmare

This changes how often it attacks, when it gets stronger, and how many hits it takes to break its defence.

After the fight

It drops a Wither Trophy, a Heart of the Sea with +3 attack damage and +5 reach. More trophies and XP come at 5, 25 and 100 kills.

Kill it in under five minutes to get the hidden The Unbroken advancement and 30 levels.

Install

Put the zip for your Minecraft version into world/datapacks/, then run /reload or enable it in World Settings.

• Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21 to 26.3. Pick the file that matches your version.
• Mods: none. This is a vanilla datapack.
• Multiplayer: works in singleplayer and multiplayer.
